MBendi AfroPaediaThe MBendi AfroPaedia is Africa's electronic encyclopaedia of business and commercial information in order to assist companies and business people around the world to do business in and with Africa. An excellent site allAfrica.comClaiming to be the one-stop source for up-to-date information on all of Africa, with reports from Africa's leading newspapers, magazines and news agencies, this site provides news bulletins and information including special sections on business & finance and economic development MBendi - Stock Exchanges in AfricaA key resource on Africa's Stock Exchanges. Includes 14 operative stock exchanges in Africa. Apparently updated monthly. Somewhat general in nature but the only one of its sort for Africa. Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)Based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ECA is the regional arm of the United Nations, mandated to support the economic and social development of its 53 member States, foster regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa’s development. Very good site although somewhat slow in loading. Do not miss the case study on Microfinance, the section on women and economic development, and most of all the section on regional integration. Africa Policy Information CenterThe primary objective of the Africa Policy Information Center (APIC) is to widen the policy debate in the United States around African issues and the U.S. role in Africa, by providing accessible policy-relevant information and analysis usable by a wide range of groups and individuals. APIC is the educational affiliate of the Washington Office on Africa (WOA), a not-for-profit church, trade union and civil rights group supported organization that works with Congress on Africa-related legislation. Norwegian Council for AfricaThe Norwegian Council for Africa seeks to promote a nuanced analysis that demonstates the positive aspects of the situation in Africa without ignoring existing hindrances and challenges. Mbolo.com, le guide du web africainMbolo.com, the African web guide is a generalist portal with more than 1700 sites in the index. The section on "enterprises and services" is interesting. However the "news" section leads to french rather than african events. Centre for the Study of African EconomiesThe Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) at Oxford University is one of the largest concentrations of academic economists and social scientists working on Africa outside the continent itself. It produces the Journal of African Economies as well as its Working Paper Series. African Studies CenterThe African Studies Center of the University of Pennsylvania presents a very good list of on-line resources on Africa, although mostly non business specific. |
