REESWeb: Russian and East European Studies Internet Resources

The REESWeb at the University of Pittsburg is a comprehensive index of electronic resources on the Balkans, the Baltic states,the Caucusus, Central Asia, Central Europe, the CIS, Eastern Europe, the NIS, the Russian Federation, and the former Soviet Union.It is also part of the World-Wide Web Virtual Library. A "Must".

BISNIS Online

BISNIS Online, the Business Information Service for the Newly Independent States (BISNIS), is the U.S. Government's one-stop shop for doing business in Russia and the other states of the former Soviet Union. Excellent site providing, country and industry reports, export opportunities, sources of finance, etc.

Bucknell University: Russian Business & Economics

As the Russian and NIS economies stabilize they provide invaluable insights into the real nature of economic relations in that part of the world. This page contains economic reports as well as essential links related to Business & Economics in Russia.

Central European Initiative (CEI)

CEINet is the information network for the Central European Initiative which aims at European integration and supports its member countries which are not yet EU members, in their approach to the EU. It also contributes to the process of transition in the member states and the development of regional infrastructure. I particularly liked their country pages.

Center for Economic Research (Uzbekistan)

The Center for Economic Research (CER) is a joint project of the government of Uzbekistan and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) whose main objectives are to research social and economic processes, and prepare proposals to deepen the economic reforms conducted in the republic. In addition to general and statistical information on Uzbekistan, the site provides access to research working papers (english and/or russian). Do not miss the economic review magazine and the business links in the links section.

Friends and Partners

Friends and Partners was jointly developed in 1994 by citizens of the US and Russia to promote better understanding between the people of the two countries. Includes various databases, information and communications resources. Do not miss their Economics and Business links

Russia Today

Part of the European Internet Network, Russia Today provides 24 hours coverage of daily news. Best sections are Country Info and Business News. Very good site providing extensive information but unfortunately suffering from slow loading (likely due to heavy banner advertising)

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was to foster the transition towards open market-oriented economies and to promote private and entrepreneurial initiative in the countries of central and eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The site provides mostly information on how the EBRD operates. Its most interesting section is the section on Finance for SMEs.

Institute for the Economy in Transition

This monthly bulletin from the Institute for the Economy in Transition presents data and analysis on Russian economic and political outlook, monetary policy , financial markets , foreign direct investment, etc. Archives are available since 1995. Very interesting bulletin although sources of data and analysis are not clearly identified.

NewBiznet Project in Ukraine and Moldova

Funded by USAID, the NewBiznet Project supports the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Ukraine and Moldova though a network of regional business centers which offer advisory & consulting services, training programs & business information services. Interesting iste but limited to the activities of the project.

Central Europe Online

This site provides general daily news on Eastern and Central Europe but also business news and country info, links to local press and travel information. Quite useful.

CzechInvest

This web site describes investment opportunities in the Czech Republic, and gives background data on the Czech economy as well as the political situation and other general information about the Czech Republic.

SKATE Financial Information Agency

Comprehensive source of information on the Russian financial markets, privatization events and major stock indexes. However most of the key information is available only to subscribers. Do not miss a very interesting collection of links

Ukrainebiz

Administered and maintained by the Center for Economic Initiatives (CEI), this web site aims to link Ukrainian and Western businesses, to locate trading and investment partners, and to publicize services and products which are available for export to and from Ukraine.

SBEDIF Business Centre

The objective of this project financed by the Canadian International Development Agency is to "establish a self-sustainable, non-profitable and constantly operating Business Centre "Small Business and Economic Development for Ivano-Frankivsk" (SBEDIF)" in Ukraine. The site is rather limited at this stage and provides only general info on the project components.

TRADEnet - Business Information Service

TRADEnet is "a specialised international source of free useful information for entrepreneurs, companies and other commercial subjects operated by the Czech Foundation for Enterprise Development." Includes a database of companies, and a list of wanted imports. Rather limited at this stage, but a worthwhile effort by volunteers.
