International Small Business Congress, Seoul, October 29-November 1st 2000
ISBC objectives are to promote mutual relationships and provide business opportunities by developing communication linkages and networks among participating representatives from governments, academic communities, business & trade organizations, financial institutions and small businesses. The main theme of the conference: "New Opportunities in the Knowledge-Based Economy" is particularly appropriate and interesting.

World Summit of Young Entrepreneurs, New-York, August 26-September 2nd 2000
The World Summit for Young Entrepreneurs (WSYE) is a United Nations Programme involving governments, multilateral agencies and multinational corporations, whose objective is to facilitate international joint venture opportunities for emerging young entrepreneurs from small and medium enterprises. This year theme: "Partnering for Success in Global Markets" is particularly attractive.

CARDO International Conference, Newcastle (England) 26-28 April 2000
Organized by the Centre for Architectural Research and Development Overseas (CARDO) at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, this conference will focus on "the role of home-based enterprises". Proposed topics include amongst others the symbiosis between housing and employment and the economic contribution of home-based enterprises at personal, household, neighbourhood, city and national level . Do not forget to visit the CARDO homepage and particularly their useful links section which lead to very interesting documents related to small enterprise development.

WTO Third Ministerial Conference, Seattle, November 30 - December 3rd 1999
The official site of the World Trade Organization’s 3rd Ministerial Conference provides all necessary information and links, including webcasts, to follow this very important conference on international trade.

ISBC, Toronto (Canada) 12-15 October 1999
The International Small Business Congress (ISBC) acts as a global forum for the discussion of policy issues, small business strategies, concepts, initiatives, institutions and mechanisms for supporting small business. Interesting site which provides basic information on the conference

World XIth Productivity Congress, Edinburgh (Scotland) 3-6 October 1999
The Congress will bring together business leaders, industrialists, scholars, politicians, administrators and productivity experts from around the globe, to focus on new theories and best practices to improve business performance. It will cover innovations, process improvement and change management with a particular focus on information, communication and knowledge management and the global economy.

ICSB Conference, Naples (Italy) 20-23 June, 1999.
The theme of the 44th International Council for Small Business Conference will be "Innovation and Economic Development: The Role of SMEs " and 500 participants from 80 countries are expected. Unfortunately the site offers little information on the conference

APEC Investment Mart Seoul, Korea 2-5 June 1999
APEC's 21 member economies will be going all out to showcase their investment policies, specific investment opportunities and business climates. Each member economy will operate a pavilion offering investors a chance to discuss specific investment projects or opportunities with those seeking investment. Although the site provides details on the program, not much else is available as it is restricted to registered participants.

ICTED'99 Conference, Multan, Pakistan 12 - 15 April 1999
The conference will investigate how information and communications technologies may be employed to promote economic development. The focus will be towards, but not restricted to, countries of the third world and the South Asian region. A very important theme which will focus not only on national policies and public sector management but also on private sector development and poverty alleviation. A very promising initiative which will hopefully bring an adequate response.

OECD Ministerial Conference on Electronic Commerce (Ottawa, October 7-9th 1998)
Building on the conferences “Gateways to the Global Market -- Consumers and Electronic Commerce” (Paris, March 1997), and “Dismantling the Barriers to Global Electronic Commerce” (Turku, Finland, November 1997), OECD Ministers called for this Conference to bring together leaders from national governments, business, and international organisations for the purpose of encouraging action and co-operation with the goal of “Realising the Potential of Global Electronic Commerce”.

International Commercialization Conference (October 5-7 1998, Spokane,USA)
The conference aims to provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs and policy makers to share successful strategies, models and funding sources for bringing products to local and international markets. The schedule appears interesting with 5 conference tracks covering, networks and alliances, building a commercialisation model, financing, national policy and the entrepreneurial university.

African Women and Economic Development; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia(28 April - 1 May 1998)
The conference will seek ways to speed up the socio-economic development of Africa by integrating gender issues into development policies, plans and programmes. It will also address information and communication as a strategic tool to build effective partnerships around the priority concerns of men and women.

Global Knowledge 97 (22-25 June 1997) Toronto, Canada
Global Knowledge 97, hosted by the World Bank and the Government of Canada in partnership with a large group of public and private organizations, will focus on the challenges facing developing countries, and the international community, at the end of the 20th century and the dawn of the information age. It will explore the vital role of knowledge and information in sustainable development, and the ways in which the information revolution transforms the development process. It will examine the new opportunites for participation, partnership and dialogue created by the information revolution;

OECD Conference on Women Entrepreneurs in Small and Medium Enterprises. Paris 16-18th April 1997
Small and medium-sized enterprises are playing a growing role in the economy. Entrepreneurs accelerate the pace of change within economies, generating both new jobs and economic growth. This is particularly true for women-owned SMEs, which are growing at a faster rate than the economy as a whole in several OECD countries.The conference is expected to stimulate international debate, reinforcing the role of the OECD in this field and leading to concrete results for women-led SMEs in both OECD and non-member countries.

Micro Credit Summit February 2-4, 1997.
The official homepage of the microcredit summit which will take place in Washington .Includes the full summit document. The Summit's purpose statement has been expanded and now recognizes the importance of savings, other financial services, and business services for very poor entrpreneurs. The site has been quite improved lately particularly with regards to content.

The International Development Conference (IDC), January 11-13th 1997
The conference theme will be "The New Face of Development" and it will highlight new technology, global realities, ways of alleviating poverty, ways of financing social development, political realities (especially in the US), and new means of collaboration. Of particular interest should be the sessions on "New Technologies for Microenterprise", " Technology, Finance and Trade: New Opportunities for Development ", " New Technologies & Women: What Entrepreneurs Need ", and " Venture Capital for Development: New Innovations ".

WTO Ministerial Conference December 9-13th 1996
This first Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization offers the opportunity to review progress in implementing the WTO Agreements following completion of the Uruguay Round. Harmonizing the world multilateral trading system in the present context of globalization is indeed a huge challenge for the 127 countries represented at the conference
